Kathryn: “I work with an end in mind.”

Allison Tyler Jones interviews two fellow photographers, Kathryn Langsford and Lara Blair, in Part 4 of her four-part series “From Pixels to Products”.

Allison Tyler Jones spends her days capturing spontaneous portraits of children and their families in her Main Street studio in Mesa, Arizona. Committed to the art of the photographic print, Allison works with her clients and their interior designers to create iconic art pieces and family galleries for their homes.

An author of four photography books, her most recent title, “100% Kid” (Peachpit Press) focuses on photographing rambunctious kids in gorgeous light. Allison owned a retail store for 12 years in a former life and has leveraged that business expertise to create a studio that ranks as one of the nation’s most profitable, according to Professional Photographers of America.

Allison is committed to helping photographers create their own success through her workshops, speaking and as a business mentor.

Owning a business is hard, and Allison is excited to share her down-to-earth, practical, take-no-prisoners advice.

Photos by Kathryn, PBK, was started by Kathryn Langsford in 1999. As a self-taught photographer and entrepreneur, Kathryn was able to combine an ease with children, keen artistic eye, and high-end service sensibility to position herself as Vancouver's premiere portrait photographer . Today she is sought after by the most well-known of Vancouver families, as well as many from outside Canada who make the trip to have their families captured annually.

Lara Blair is enamored with empowering and celebrating females in a portrait-making experience in her Northwest studio. Her /Brave & True Project/involves image-making of tweens and has created a new market in this area of the US. Lara also teaches a /Brave & True/ class that helps these girls navigate the turbulent waters of middle school and will soon be offering this class online to parents, organizations and other photographers. There are retreats and senior picture destination photo shoots also on the docket this year to the Oregon high desert and the Southwest. Lara is enjoying a new empty nest adventure this year with her husband and Golden retriever just north of Portland, Oregon.

Lara “There’s success out there. You gotta find it and find out how people are doing it. Listen, read, watch.”
